According to the Arabic Geomancer Shaykh Zanati (1320 ACE) the meaning of Amissio is al-asir al-khariji (outward or external capture) and this has ended up in Western Geomancy as meaning Amissio or loss.
The Arabic meaning emphasises loss, an inability to obtain a goal, lack of success, shipwrecked, to decline, to leave, to end, to fall in ruin, to ruin yourself. As I said in my book Stars and Stones, these are emphasising the material effects of this figure.
Zanati’s Geomancy is a lot more black and white than later geomancers and he makes Amissio a bad figure, but following the established connection of Venus makes this meaning a little hard to fit. Modern geomancers have said that this figure represents the loss of one’s heart to another in love and say that in cases of relationship readings it is a positive figure.
However, the astrological meaning of the figure is less clear the later medieval geomancer Christopher Cattan refers to it as being Venus retrograde in Taurus, while others have it represented by Venus in Scorpio or Venus in Virgo. None of these figures fulfil the meaning of loss of material circumstances while encouraging romantic or emotional links. A better candidate would be Venus in Pisces. This would mean feeling idealistic, emotionally intense, and losing sight of everything practical and material.
Amissio as Venus in Pisces signifies a sacrificial and emotional and spiritual approach to love and relationships but losses in material circumstances.
Venus in Pisces brings a strong sense of empathy and compassion to relationships. You may seek profound emotional connections and strive for harmony and understanding.
This placement often leads to idealising partners and seeing the world through rose-coloured glasses. It might mean a dreamy, romantic outlook on love. There is a natural inclination to connect with others on a spiritual level, seeking soulful bonds that transcend the physical realm.
Venus in Pisces can indicate a generous and altruistic approach to finances and material possessions. You may be inclined to give to others and prioritise the well-being of those you care about.
There can be a tendency towards impractical or unrealistic financial decisions, driven by emotional considerations rather than practicality. However, it warns that if you don’t balance the idealism of Pisces with practical financial planning you will lose material resources. It will lead to losses due to emotional spending.
In essence this figure will make it difficult to get a good material result.
This placement often enhances artistic and creative abilities, making you more attuned to beauty and aesthetics. Amissio can make you more vulnerable to emotional manipulation and deception, as you may overlook flaws in others due to an idealistic nature.
Amissio in the first House (Self)
Empathy and Sensitivity: You may have a deeply empathetic and sensitive nature, often taking on others’ emotions as your own. This can make you a compassionate and caring individual. It can also represent a loss of health or stamina.
Amissio in the Second House (Finances and Personal Values)
Generosity and Altruism: You might have a strong desire to help others, even if it means sacrificing your own financial stability. This placement can also indicate a talent for creative or artistic pursuits that bring in income. It also indicates personal financial losses.
Amissio in the third House (Communication and Siblings)
Intuitive Communication: You may have a natural ability to connect with others on a deep emotional level, making you an excellent communicator. This can also indicate strong bonds with siblings and close friends. However, it can also mean a conscious loss of communication or a break from others.
Amissio in the fourth House (Home and Family)
You may create a warm and nurturing home environment, filled with love and compassion. This placement can also indicate a strong connection to family and a desire to care for them. However, this is only for feelings and not practical concerns – for example a house might look nice and be good to live in but have been poorly made.
Amissio in the fifth house (Children and Creativity)
You may have a dreamy and idealistic approach to love and relationships, often seeing the best in others. This can also indicate a strong creative streak, with a love for artistic and imaginative pursuits.
Amissio in the sixth house (Health and Service)
A natural inclination towards healing and helping others, whether through traditional medicine or alternative therapies. This placement can also indicate a strong sense of duty and service. However, it will mean either a loss of health or the loss of an illness depending on how the question was phrased. It might also mean that a doctor was missing something important.
Amissio in the seventh house (Partnerships and Marriage)
This means profound emotional connections in your relationships, often prioritizing love and compassion over other considerations. This can lead to deeply fulfilling partnerships but also potential challenges if boundaries are not maintained. The person loses all sense of self in a relationship. Enemies are not focused and will be defeated.
Amissio in the eighth house (Transformation and Shared Resources)
This figure might be good for mysticism and spiritual transformation, often seeking deeper truths and connections. This placement can also indicate a willingness to share resources and support others. It might indicate a loss of life or inheritance.
Amissio in the Ninth House (Travel and Higher Learning)
In this house Amissio brings a strong desire to explore spiritual and philosophical ideas, often traveling to seek knowledge and wisdom. This placement can also indicate a love for learning and intellectual pursuits. However, it is also bad for situations which require practical effort and study. Doctors will not be able to cure the patent.
Amission in the tenth house (Career and Reputation)
Amissio means that a person might be good at using their empathy and intuition to connect with others in creative fields. This placement can also indicate a strong sense of purpose and a desire to make a positive impact on the world. However, when it comes to actually making a material contribution the person might fail. Politicians are too idealistic and will lose any election.
Amissio in the Eleventh House (Friendships and Social Groups)
You may have a strong desire to connect with others on a deep emotional level, often forming close and supportive friendships. This placement can also indicate a love for social groups and community activities. However, it could mean a loss of friends, or an inability to bring your wishes to fruition.
Amissio in the twelfth House (Death, Spirituality and Hidden Matters)
Amissio creates a need for solitude and introspection to find inner peace. The querent might be freed from any metaphorical or spiritual prison. There will be hidden losses or costs which have not been noticed yet. The querent’s idealism might result in them not noticing hidden enemies (or even curses).
